We enjoy working with elementary school students to help them develop foundational skills that will help them throughout their entire academic career. We make learning FUN. We play a lot of games and keep things moving in order to keep them engaged. If your child is struggling in one of the following areas or is resistant to doing homework, we’d love to help.

- Math
- Science
- Writing

- History
- Study skills
- Organization

Middle School / Jr. High
Lara taught 7th grade for 10 years and loves kids in these middle years. As a parent, she knows this can be a difficult phase. Kids are being hit with having to manage being in classes with multiple teachers who all have different methods and expectations. Some kids have never been taught organizational skills, or the skills just don’t come naturally. Frequently, parents have forgotten how to do some of the math or other homework their middle schoolers are being assigned. Tweens and teens often want to assert their independence and resist parental involvement in homework. Lara would love to help you not waste your valuable free time researching how to do math or other concepts, hold your child accountable to completing work so you can have a more peaceful home life, and teach your child organizational skills that will help them be more successful in school. Subjects she tutors at this age:
- General homework help in all subjects except world languages
- Math
- Science
- English
- History: completing homework, studying for tests, and writing papers
- Executive functioning support: planning their time, breaking down long-range assignments into manageable pieces with self-imposed intermediate deadlines, organization strategies
- Study skills: how to study for tests, note-taking strategies
- Handwriting and typing
- Reading
- Writing essays and research papers
High School
Lara enjoys working with this age group because they have sophisticated senses of humor and are figuring out who they are. Grades count now, so keeping their GPA up is important. She loves supporting kids with executive function issues. She can help them make a plan for their homework and longer-term tests/projects and help them stay organized. She also provides SAT preparation for students any time from the summer before their junior year to the summer before their senior year. Please see the other page devoted to how she does SAT prep.
- Math: pre-algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry. Feel free to contact her if you would like a recommendation for a tutor who does Algebra II, trig, pre-calc, calculus, or statistics.
- Science: Earth science/geology, biology, ecology. Please contact her for a recommendation of another tutor if your child needs help in chemistry or physics.
