Elementary

I enjoy working with elementary school students to help them develop foundational skills that will help them throughout their entire academic career. They are so cute at this age and I can make learning FUN. We play a lot of games and I keep things moving in order to keep them engaged. If your child is struggling in one of the following areas or is resistant to doing homework, I’d love to help.

  • Math
  • Science
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • English
  • History
  • Study skills
  • Organization
  • Handwriting and typing

Middle School / Jr. High

I love working with all ages, but middle school is my specialty. I taught 7th grade for 10 years and love kids in these middle years. As a parent, I know this can be a difficult phase. Kids are being hit with having to manage being in classes with multiple teachers who all have different methods and expectations. Some kids have never been taught organizational skills, or the skills just don’t come naturally. Frequently, parents have forgotten how to do some of the math or other homework now that their kids are no longer in elementary school. Tweens and teens often want to assert their independence and resist parental involvement in homework. It can be a turbulent time. I’d love to help you not waste your valuable free time researching how to do math or other concepts, hold your child accountable to completing work so you can have a more peaceful home life, and/or teach your child organizational skills that will help them be more successful in school. Subjects I tutor at this age:

  • Math (all middle school levels)
  • Science (all middle school levels)
  • English
  • History (studying for test and writing papers)
  • Executive functioning support: Planning their time, breaking down long-range assignments into manageable pieces with self-imposed intermediate deadlines, organization strategies
  • Study skills: how to study for tests, note-taking strategies
  • Handwriting and typing
  • Reading
  • Writing essays and research papers

High School

I enjoy working with this age group because they have sophisticated senses of humor and are figuring out who they are and what they want in life. Grades count now. Keeping their GPA up and doing well in their classes is important. I love supporting kids with executive functioning issues. I can help them make a plan for their homework and longer-term tests and projects and help them stay organized. I also provide SAT preparation for students the summer before their junior year, during their junior year, or the summer before their senior year. Please see my other page devoted to how I do SAT prep.

  • Math: pre-algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry. I don’t do Algebra II, trig, pre-calc, calculus, or statistics. Feel free to contact me anyway if you would like a recommendation for another tutor.
  • Science: Earth science/geology, biology, ecology. I don’t do chemistry or physics. Please contact me for a recommendation of another tutor.
