English, AP Lit, AP Lang, College Application Essays
Amy has spent nearly four decades helping young people thrive as learners, including a 37-year career as a middle and high school English teacher. She earned her B.A. in English from The Colorado College and spent more than two decades teaching AP Literature and AP Language, along with American, European, and World Literature, writing, grammar, and creative writing. She also taught 6th-8th grade English and English as a Second Language and spent 14 summers teaching and directing an experiential summer program for local middle schoolers.
Amy began her next chapter with retirement, allowing for more time with her husband, their five adult children, and three granddaughters. She continues to find 1:1 tutoring deeply rewarding. She works with students from middle school through college in English, literature, writing, grammar, test prep, and study skills. She especially enjoys helping students with college application essays. She guides students through the entire process, from brainstorming meaningful topics to developing a polished final draft, providing guidance that allows each student’s authentic voice to shine through.
Amy also directs a local nonprofit civics course and enjoys gardening, needlework, fitness, travel, yoga, pilates, and culinary therapy. In the spring, summer, and fall, you may even find her tutoring outside in her garden or on her front porch.
